Guide

How long does a small business website take to build?

Mostly it depends on how ready you are, not on how fast a designer can work. Here is what actually sets the timeline, and what to ask any designer to put in writing.

What decides the timeline

  • Content. Wording, photos and a logo are the most common cause of delay. A site cannot be finished around pages that have not been written.
  • Scope. A three-page site is quicker than ten pages, and a booking system or shop adds work beyond the pages themselves.
  • Decisions. Each round of feedback waits on someone. One person who can approve things keeps a project moving.
  • Third parties. Access to a domain, hosting account or email provider can take longer than the build, and domain changes can take hours to reach every visitor.

What is a realistic range?

Agencies often quote several weeks for a business website, usually because of content and approvals rather than the build itself. A very simple site made with a website builder can be quicker if everything you need is ready. Treat any single number, including ours, as an estimate that depends on the points above.

What Vornello publishes

Each package has a delivery estimate, and a faster option for an extra fee. The estimates start once the brief and content are ready, and the final scope is confirmed in writing before you pay.

  • Basic: 2-day delivery, or 1 day for +$100.
  • Business: 3-day delivery, or 2 days for +$150.
  • Premium: 4-day delivery, or 3 days for +$200.

How to avoid delays

  • Write down what your business does, who it is for and what you want a visitor to do next.
  • Decide the pages first. Which pages a small business website needs can help.
  • Gather your logo, photos and contact details before you start.
  • Choose one person to give approvals.
  • Check you can log in to your domain and hosting accounts, or ask for help setting them up.

What to ask a designer

Ask when the clock starts, what you need to supply and by when, how many rounds of changes are included, and what happens if content arrives late. A quote that gives a launch date but no assumptions is incomplete.
